Introduced in 1971, this renowned Dollar coin honors President Dwight D. Eisenhower along with mans first landing on the moon. While previous designs for U.S. dollar coins featured the symbolic figure of Liberty, the Eisenhower Dollar was the first circulating Dollar to honor a specific person. Chief U.S. Mint Engraver Frank Gasparro created the distinctive profile of Americas 34th President. Leader of the victorious forces in Europe during World War II, Eisenhower rode his wave of popularity as a war hero to become President of the United States. The dollars reverse depicts a majestic eagle landing on the moon with the earth in the background. The coin has been layered in 24-Karat Pure Gold, then colorized through a proprietary process to commemorate mans first landing on the moon. Housed in a protective capsule and placed inside a collector's display box.
