There is a variation in the number of stars as new states joined the Union. Robert Scot designed this historic coin, which is the second in the Eagle series. The Capped Bust is the original obverse design; the Heraldic Eagle replaced a smaller eagle design in 1797, and was enlarged in 1801.This historic coin was produced for only eight years; no 10 Gold Pieces were struck dated 1805 to 1837.
